Born and raised in South Africa, Imran Garda (@ImranGarda) is a journalist, presenter and award-winning novelist currently living in Istanbul. He is the host of the flagship current affairs show The Newsmakers on TRT World. He is also the host of Crossing the Line, a documentary series featuring major political figures.

With more than a decade of experience, Imran hosts debates, reports the news, writes features and crafts documentaries. He has interviewed world leaders and representatives of state. He has also interviewed non-state actors from groups considered terrorists by some, freedom fighters by others. He has reported from more than a dozen countries on multiple continents, from Sudan to Saudi Arabia, North America to North Korea.

Imran began his career in television at age 20 in South Africa, working for SuperSport as a presenter and reporter. He then joined Al Jazeera in Doha in 2006 as a news anchor, one of the hosts of Inside Story and then as host of the Royal Television Society-award winning program The Stream in Washington, DC.  Later he was a senior presenter and producer on AJ+ in San Francisco and host of Third Rail on Al Jazeera America in New York City, before moving to Istanbul.
In 2014, Garda released his debut novel The Thunder That Roars. The book won the 2015 Olive Schreiner Prize for Prose. It was also longlisted for the Etisalat Prize for Literature.
